Best practices in design and construction of urban islands and coastline development

The entire world is impressed with the extraordinary man-made developments like Dubai palm islands and the World project in the UAE, Amwaj islands in Bahrain and the Pearl island in Qatar. With these and recently announced mega projects like $1.7 billion Marsa Al Arab in the UAE and $8 billion Red Sea project in Saudi Arabia, the Middle East has become a world leader in artificial islands.

However, behind this fascinating expansion of the entire region, there are ultimate challenges, that main contractors, consultants and developer have to overcome. Geotechnical design difficulties, risk of liquefaction, coastal erosion, sedimentation, environmental damage, choosing the right dredging and reclamation techniques – this is not the full list of problems to be resolved by experts from marine and coastal sectors while planning and constructing coastline developments.

With this in mind, we are hosting the Island Development Middle East Conference taking place from the 5-6 December in Dubai, to address these and other challenges. You will learn the best practices in design and development of artificial and natural islands, and learn from the most up-to-date case studies about proven land reclamation and sand compaction techniques.
